Administering Medication

Administering medication safely and recording the outcome is the fundamental job of HxCare.

HxCare will provide all the details needed to administer the medication and it is up to you to record the outcome of the administration within the system whether it is successful or not.

Medication can either be administered as part of a round, or outside of a round, depending on the type of administration required and the times that are set for it.

Administering medication can be done through the daily schedule view, or from the MAR chart. Generally the MAR chart is used to update existing administration information. The daily schedule view is the normal route to administer medication.

HxCare will provide warnings if;

  • The gap between administration times is less than 4 hours
  • The dosage exceeds the maximum daily dose if it’s set
  • The dosage exceeds the amount that should be given

HxCare not prevent you from administering medication, but it will prompt for a witness when required. A witness will be another member of staff who will need to verify themselves with a PIN that they set up as part of their own account.

HxCare has been designed to carry out rounds and recording the administering of medication on a tablet device. HxCare is not an app that you would download from the Play Store, you still use a web browser, but the screens you would use are optimised to be used on a tablet.
